And now for something COMPLETELY different.
I decided to take it to the next level with this cosplay.
The flight suit is a reproduction off of Ebay (I considered a real one since they were the same price, but I wanted this navy blue instead of blue/grey). The NLR shield, NLRAF, and large Nightmare sqdn. patches are the ones I had made at Midwest Brony Fest last year. The name patch and small squadron patch I got from a place that prints patches instead of embroidering (allows far more detail). Finally the Tomcat patch is off of Ebay (I have the Nightmare squadron as owning F-16's, but I wanted to use my fav' plane for this).
The helmet also came from Ebay and is one of those mass produced ones from China (found one in the US though). Actual pilot helmets were just too expensive for this project. I added my callsign (that I actually use on the game Area00), NLR symbol, the cutie mark of my ponysona, and a chrome Nightmare Moon sticker (from the dog tag series) to it.
Now for the real stuff. I picked up the combat boots from a surplus store in Topeka (found a pair of actual flight boots on Ebay, but these were far cheaper at $25). And then the oxygen mask, which came from China and is for a MiG. There was no way to connect it to the helmet, so I had to put snaps on both to mount it.
I do have 1 more authentic thing for it: A pair of Vietnam era Lt. Colonel pins for the shoulders, though I'm not sure if I should put them on it outside of home.
Altogether it cost around $200 for the setup. I will be wearing it to this year's Midwest Brony Fest in Kansas City (I had this planned before I found out the VA for Spitfire is going to be there).
